MANASSAS UTILITIES COUNTS DOWN 100 DAYS UNTIL 100 YEAR ANNIV; Lucky Manassas Utility Customers to Receive Weekly Giveaways

The City of Manassas Department of Public Works and Utilities is gearing up for their grand 100-year anniversary celebration on Sat., Oct. 12 with a special 100-day countdown, starting mid-July, where the City of Manassas is saluting their customers with 100 variations of month-long giveaways. A random set of Manassas utility customers could receive flashlights, water bottles, hats, coffee mugs or beach totes in July, August and September, while a few, fortunate customers will win grand-prize giveaways in October, leading up to the Oct. 12 celebration, including four restaurant gift cards from Manassas, Va.-based Carmellos, City Square Café and Monza, valued at $50 each; and one 17-inch freshwater pearl necklace and 7-inch bracelet with sterling silver clasps from Ashby Jewelers of Manassas, Va. “In 1913, Manassas Utilities began servicing Manassas customers, we’re going to capture those memories in a 100-year time capsule that will be buried near the department during our 100-year anniversary celebration,” said Mike Moon, director of public works and utilities for the City of Manassas. “Our customers are definitely part of our history and so we wanted to include them in our giveaway countdown, and appreciate the generous support of our sponsors,” said Moon.
Beginning in mid-July, Manassas utility customers will be randomly chosen to receive giveaways, concluding in early October with four customers winning four $50 restaurant gift cards and one customer randomly selected to win the grand giveaway of a freshwater pearl necklace and bracelet. Giveaway sponsors include: Ashby Jewelers, City Square of Café, Carmellos and Monzo of Manassas, Va.
The 100-Year Anniversary Manassas Utilities/Public Works’ free celebration is Sat., Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring free lunch by Bad to the Bone of Gainesville, Va., live-band performance by Shake It Up of Manassas, Va., Utility department and cherry picker truck tours, moon bounce, balloon artist and jugglers by Miguelloon and Lady L of www.partyco-op.com, face painting, anniversary cake by Occasionally Cake of Alexandria, Va. plus a kiosk depicting the 100-year history, including a book that chronicles Manassas Utilities 100-year timeline. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Manassas Dept. of Utilities will donate $5 for every person that attends the event to the American Cancer Society.
