Manassas Ballet Theatre presents "Romeo and Juliet" (Opening Night Discount – Service Night)

Young love can be tricky, especially when it’s the product of Shakespeare’s pen. Manassas Ballet Theatre (MBT) closes the 2016-17 season with the classical, full-length tragic romance of Romeo and Juliet, May 19-21 at the Hylton Performing Arts Center, accompanied by the Manassas Ballet Theatre Orchestra playing the Sergei Prokofiev score.
The ensemble cast of 80, including 22 professional MBT dancers, will fill the stage at the Hylton along with a backdrop of new, custom scenery and accompanied by an expanded orchestra (45 members). “Everything about MBT has grown so much since the last and only time we staged Romeo and Juliet in May of 2011,” said Amy Grant Wolfe, artistic director of MBT. “This production is a huge undertaking – new costumes are being created for the large cast; new scenery, including massive columns and new backdrops and tapestries, are being built. To have such an ensemble now to work with will make this presentation so much richer – it will be a breathtaking experience.”
There are some special guests in this cast – Marty Nohe, Prince William County Supervisor (Coles District) plays Lord Montague, and Rick Smith of the American Bankers Association plays the Prince of Verona. Marty is reprising the role he had six years prior, with Igor Sapotko returning as Friar Lawrence, and Sara Gaydash Ordway returning as the Lead Harlot. Joshua Burnham and Kaitlin Frankenfield will dance the lead roles of Romeo and Juliet, with dancer, ballet master and choreographer Vadim Slatvitskiy at the helm of the production.
Tickets start at $25 and are available at and (888) 945-2468. Opening night is Service Night; any service employee (active duty, veteran or first responder) receives a free ticket, with accompanying tickets at a 25% discount.
