A Local Company’s Effort to Strengthen Prince William’s Business Community
First Virginia Community Bank to Sponsor the Chamber’s “Business Academy” Spring Term
MANASSAS, VA, February 28, 2014 – Since its inception, First Virginia Community Bank has been dedicated to giving back to the communities they serve. More recently, and for the second year in a row, the local bank will sponsor the Prince William Chamber of Commerce’s Business Academy, a series of courses led by area professionals to share expertise and build a strong, dynamic and knowledgeable business community.
“First Virginia Community Bank has been a member and supporter of the Prince William Chamber since the beginning and sees great value in the programs and services offered by the Chamber,” says Jim Elliott, Senior Vice President, Regional Lending Executive and Treasurer of the Chamber. “When the Chamber approached me to serve on the task force for developing the Business Academy, I jumped at the chance. I wanted to get in on the ground floor of something special.” Designed for new entrepreneurs, growing companies and anybody seeking professional development, each session focuses on one unique business issue, with many of them hosted as hands-on workshops.
During Elliott’s time as the Chairman of the Chamber’s Business Growth Committee, “I could see that there was a thirst to learn more about the subjects we covered, more than could be covered in an hour”, he continued. “The programs offered by the Business Academy provide the Chamber members with the opportunity to hear an expert on a topic present at a fraction of the cost compared to hiring them to meet with you one on one, proving the old adage, membership has its privileges.”
The spring term of the Prince William Business Academy begins Thursday, March 13, with two sessions offered each month through June. The topics for the March sessions are “Goals without Action is Just a Wish” and “Entrepreneurs: Taking Your Business to the Next Level”.
