Warrenton, Virginia – Approaching its 10th anniversary this August, Allegro Community Music School is proud to announce the unveiling of its 2014 Broadway Camp. This camp is a theatre arts education program dedicated to making the arts accessible to children and teens in our community.
2014 Broadway Camp is an immersive, eight-week summer camp and will offer enriching, hands-on experience in the orchestra and performance arenas. The camp will run July 14 through August 8, 2014, and is open to those ages 3-18. The camp will conclude with a special finale performance on August 9 with tickets available to the public.
“This summer, children in our community will have the opportunity to see and learn what it takes to be on Broadway from Broadway professionals themselves, it’s very exciting,” said Senior Director, Lachelle Yoder.
Professionals who will be leading the camp include Brian Rardin, Penny Maas and Paul Norris, who all come with years of experience in the field. Brian brings experience as a director, choreographer and production supervisor. He has also appeared in Broadway productions including, Amadeus, and the off-Broadway production of Passion Play.
Penny is currently an Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Performance at Illinois Wesleyan University and has worked as a professional actress, singer and dancer in New York City for over 20 years. On Broadway she had long, successful runs in three Tony award-winning shows including the original cast of Crazy for You, Damn Yankees, and Cabaret. She has also worked with stars such as Neil Patrick Harris, John Stamos and Brooke Shields.
Paul, who is currently the Director of the Music Department at Swanson Middle School in Northern Virginia, was recently interviewed on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” for his work with the Arlington based New Horizons Band on a segment dedicated to the benefits of the musical activity after retirement. Additionally, he has been called upon to serve as a festival adjudicator and honors band conductor for events throughout the state of Virginia on the county and district level.
Auditions for the 2014 Broadway Camp will be held on May 10 at 20 Main St. Please call if you wish to schedule an audition. Spaces in the camp are limited. Please visit www.AllegroCSA.org or call 540-349-5088 for more information.
