The Water Art Invitational (WAI) is an annual art contest hosted by the Service Authority that is open to all high school students enrolled in public or private schools located in Prince William County. The WAI challenges students to articulate themes related to safe, reliable drinking water as an indispensable and convenient resource that millions of people rely on every day through the artistic mediums of painting/drawing, photography, and computer graphics.
The theme of the 2014 WAI is “From Source to Tap and Back Again.” This year’s theme refers to the journey PWCSA water takes:
• Beginning in rivers and lakes;
• On to the water treatment plant;
• Into homes and businesses;
• Onward to the water reclamation plant; and
• Returning clean water back to streams and rivers.
Students who intend to submit artwork for the contest are strongly encouraged to remain mindful of the theme while considering and creating their entries. Judges for the competition apply as much weight to demonstrated artistic ability as to clear comprehension and interpretation of each year’s established theme when scoring the submissions.
Teachers and students can download Rules and Entry Forms and Artwork Entry Labels, which must be completed and submitted for each entry, as well as a flyer that can be printed and posted within schools (with the proper permissions) to help promote the event.
