A “Shark Tank” Teen Series is Coming to PWPL with Cash Prizes
Creative and entrepreneurial teens can turn their ideas into a business plan and pitch it to judges this fall at Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL). And the best part? The winners will get cash!
The “Teen Entrepreneur” program series is inspired by the popular show “Shark Tank,” and it is an ideal opportunity for teens who dream of becoming entrepreneurs. The program, sponsored by PWC Economic Development, will introduce teens to PWPL’s makerspace, teach them how to create a prototype, guide them in developing a business plan, and prepare them for presenting their product to judges.
The four-session program will turn teens’ brilliant notions into marketable products. In the final session, a panel of judges will award cash prizes for the best products—$300 for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place!
The “Teen Entrepreneur” program series has four sessions:
Session One: Makerspace Intro on Wednesday, November 6, will introduce teens to Studio 8601–a makerspace with the equipment and know-how needed to imagine, develop, and produce home goods, personalized items, and visionary inventions.
Session Two: Prototype Drafting on Wednesday, November 13, will focus on turning visions into reality. Prospective young entrepreneurs will be introduced to basic 3D design, Cricut Design Space software, and the design applications for Glowforge and sublimation printers.
Session Three: Create a Business Plan on Wednesday, December 4, will “get down to business.” PWPL’s MAGIC will give teens a basic introduction to business plans and resources that can help them build theirs.
In the final session on Wednesday, December 11, teen entrepreneurs will present their prototype and business plan to a panel of judges comprised of community business leaders.
All sessions are from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. at Central Library’s Studio 8601, and registration is required. Visit the Online Events Calendar to learn more and register.
