Reading with Rover

Early readers and kids who just love to read to dogs can bring a book and come to the Chinn Park Regional Library on Thursdays, October 9th and 23rd at 4:00 p.m. to read to a friendly dog and his patient trainer. PAL (People Animals Love) provides an opportunity for children to read to registered therapy dogs in a relaxed atmosphere. This allows children the chance to read to a non-judgmental listener, one who will accept the story exactly as they read it. For many, this allows them a rare chance to experience stress-free reading. Once they are in this situation, children find themselves relaxing and having fun while reading! They come to think of themselves as good readers, which helps their self-esteem and makes them eager to read. Eager readers practice their reading more often, leading to improved reading skills.
This is a free, drop-in program for children ages 6 to 10.  No registration is necessary.
