Dale City, VA, July 31, 2017 — Trillium Drop-In Center, Inc. announced today that Shannon Shy, Esq., was voted to be the new President of the Board of Directors at the organization’s July board meeting. Shy succeeds Ann Gurtler who held the role since Trillium’s inception in 2007.
Shy is an attorney for the Department of the Navy, a retired Marine Corps Reserve Lieutenant Colonel, the President of the International Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Foundation Board of Directors, and the author of two books about OCD, “It’ll be Okay”: How I Kept OCD from Ruining My Life, and Hope Is on Your Side: A Motivational Journal for Those Affected by OCD. He joined the Trillium board in 2012 and served as a member-at-large.   An advocate on OCD issues and a certified peer recovery specialist, Shy is uniquely positioned to both bring insight and compassion to the board as well as substantial experience in non-profit leadership and organizational governance.
“I am extremely honored to have been asked by the board to serve in the role as President.  The Trillium staff, volunteers, and my colleagues on the board are tremendously talented and dedicated.  Trillium is an important resource for those in our community who struggle with mental illness.  I am proud to be associated with them,” Shy said.
“Shannon has proven to be a valuable leader in the mental health community,” says Trillium’s Executive Director Cynthia Dudley, CPRS. “I’m looking forward to seeing how he can be a part of taking our organization to the next level.”
Shy will begin his role as President immediately and will serve in an unpaid capacity.  Ann Gurtler continues to work at Trillium providing support to people with serious mental illness.
