Martin Luther King, Jr. Program and Youth Oratorical Competition: Celebrating 30 years of Preserving the King Legacy December 13, 2019 Comments Off on Martin Luther King, Jr. Program and Youth Oratorical Competition: Celebrating 30 years of Preserving the King Legacy

Dear Community Organizations and Churches,

January 20, 2020 will mark the annual celebration of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday across the nation and the 30thanniversary of the Martin Luther King Youth Oratorical Contest and Program hosted by the Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (PWCAC-DST, Inc.) in affiliation with the Delta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) at the Hylton Memorial Chapel in Woodbridge, Virginia.  The PWCAC-DST, Inc. has celebrated this historic day since its beginning.  The theme for the 2020 program is “Let Freedom Ring” which was the theme for the first oratorical contest.

The clip included at the end of this letter shows finalist from the 2015 program and a partial performance by the choir.

The members of PWCAC-DST, Inc. invite you to join us to commemorate this day of celebration and help make this program the largest MLK Day Celebration in the Nation.  There are several ways you can help:

*Thirty members of each organization in your area attend the program.

*Purchase a full page or ½ page Ad for the souvenir journal ($200 or $125)

*Contribute to the MLK Day of Service project by donating winter wear, nonperishable food, and children’s books (K-5th grade)

*Reserve a vendor’s table ($175.00)

*Community organizations table (purchase ½ or full page ad)

*Become a Jewel Level Sponsor ($500 tax deductible donation/half page souvenir journal ad)

*Become a I Have a Dream Legacy Patron ($25 – $499 tax deductible donation; name listed in journal)

*Participate in at least two of the choices outlined above

Each organization or church should submit confirmation of their participation no later than Friday, December 20, 2019.  This will allow the MLK committee to document your participation in the souvenir journal and/or recognition before the audience on the day of the program.  We are asking that you share this information throughout your service area so that we reach maximum capacity at Hylton Chapel on the day of the program.
