Help SERVE Fight Hunger

SERVE’s Hunger Resource Center helps families in Prince William County and the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park. Many of our clients are forced to choose between putting food on the table or paying their household bills. The HRC helps families avoid this difficult choice — and stave off the perils of homelessness. There are several ways for the community to support our fight to end hunger.

Food Recovery Driver – Every day, food goes to waste while families in our community go hungry. You can help cut down on food waste and get nutritious food to food insecure families. Sign up to be a Food Recovery Driver on weekday mornings to pick up donations from Manassas-area grocery stores/restaurants and deliver the food to our Hunger Resource Center, which distributes food packages to over 650 families each month. Volunteers must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and be able to volunteer at least once a week. Drivers must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license; cargo van is provided. Ride-along training with experienced volunteer is provided. It’s a great workout, too!

Hunger Resource General Volunteer – Warehouse Support, Client Assistance and Client Intake. Volunteers may be asked to assist with unloading, weighing and placing donate food onto the shelves, assisting guests as they shop for food and gathering information to ensure the family is able to get service. There is also some organizing and cleaning needed to ensure we are able to serve the nearly 650 families who relay on us for food each month. Volunteers 18 and older may volunteer and should be able to lift up to 25lbs. Spanish speaking is preferred for some positions, but not required. Volunteers must also commit to at least one shift per week.

Donate – While we are open to accept most food, we have an urgent need for the following items:

Mac & Cheese, boxed potatoes, Hamburger Helper (and other boxed meals), canned meat & Vienna sausages, cereal, canned fruit, applesauce, condiments, ravioli, canned beans, and Mexican food.
