WOODBRIDGE, VA – Prince William County Supervisor Margaret Angela Franklin has been elected Chair of the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC) Board for 2020 and will lead an Executive Committee that for the first time is comprised entirely of women.

The PRTC Board of Commissioners is responsible for overseeing OmniRide’s mobility services as well as Virginia Railway Express operations in the region. OmniRide operates commuter and local bus services, promotes ridesharing, and works with large employers to encourage alternatives to driving alone.

“I commute regularly so I understand the community’s need for traffic relief on local roads as well as on the highways,” Franklin said. “I look forward to working with other members of the PRTC Board and with OmniRide’s staff to promote positive changes like increased local bus services.”

Franklin won election in November 2019 to represent the Woodbridge District on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, and was appointed to be a full member of PRTC’s Board earlier this year. Members of the PRTC Board voted on a slate of officers for 2020, including Franklin as Chair, during a January 16 meeting. Franklin previously served as an alternate member of the PRTC Board in 2016-2019, filling in as a voting member as needed.

Joining Franklin on the 2020 Executive Committee are:

  • Vice Chair Pamela Sebesky, Vice Mayor of the City of Manassas;
  • Secretary Cindy Shelton, a member of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors;
  • Treasurer Deborah Frazier, a member of the Spotsylvania County Board of Supervisors;
  • At-Large Member Andrea Bailey, a member of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors; and
  • At-Large Member Jeanette Rishell, Mayor of Manassas Park.

The PRTC Board typically meets at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month at the OmniRide Transit Center in Woodbridge. Meetings are open to the public.
