While we are sad to say goodbye to longtime American Red Cross exec Karen Wayne, we are happy to give a big Chamber welcome to their new Community Executive for Prince William and Loudoun, Erwin Steirle.  Here’s what Karen told us about him:

“Erwin comes to us from the Preparedness, Health & Safety Services line of service (i.e. CPR/First Aid/AED courses) of the Red Cross.  He joined the National Capital Region as Director of Health and Safety in January of 2010.  A few months later, as many of you know, the Health and Safety line of service was pulled from the chapters and nationalized.  Erwin’s focus then became revenue.  He quickly implemented strategies and process improvements to grow the region’s revenue in FY12 over FY11.  At the start of this year, Erwin was tasked with taking on another territory:  Maryland/Delmarva.  This “mega territory” is currently under his leadership.

One of his biggest accomplishments was winning back the Health and Safety training business atQuanticofor the U.S. Marine Corps.  Erwin worked with NHQ to put together a national agreement that makes the Red Cross the exclusive provider of Health and Safety training across all Marine installations.  In addition, he reinstituted community Health and Safety classes in Loudoun and is a big proponent of continuing to increase our Health and Safety presence across Prince William and Loudoun counties through continued community partnerships and internal work at the Red Cross.

Prior to the Red Cross, Erwin worked for various organizations that include a Fortune 500 company, Internet start-ups, technology companies, and associations.  We are excited that he brings with him 15+ years of sales experience and successful relationship building to Loudoun and Prince William counties.  Erwin knows the community well, having been raised inViennaand is currently a 9-year resident of Leesburg, where he resides with his wife and 2 daughters.”

As you would expect, it sounds like Karen is leaving us in capable hands.  We wish her much happiness in retirement, which we are sure will be full of new adventures.
